ERIK MENVED, LINGONBERRY WINE

The deep rose wine reveals aromas of lingonberry bitterness and damp forest floor, complemented by notes of garden strawberries and raspberries.

Based on its residual sugar level, the wine sits on the borderline between off-dry and semi-sweet. On the palate, lingonberry clearly takes the lead, with raspberry appearing as a secondary note.

Food recommendations

The wine has been served with half-raw venison fillet as well as with less sweet desserts such as curd and cream cheese puddings with fresh berries. It is particularly good with all Christmas dishes and especially with blood sausage served with pohla jam.

The wine bears the name Erik Menved for a reason: The village of Valgejõe was first mentioned in the Danish chronicles in 1290, when Denmark’s King Erik Menved ruled Estonia. The village was ruled by King Frederick of Denmark in the 1290s. The forests around the village are very good, and the raw materials partly come from there. Thinking about it, it seemed that these pohla forests probably also grew here during Menved’s reign. That’s why our semi-sweet cola wine was named after the king. Part of the raw material comes from Lahemaa, the rest from the Estonian border. Read more about Erik Menved here: https://www.veinivilla.ee/et/p/ajalugu
