The Regent grapes were grown in Viljandi County under the watchful eye of grape grower Heino Säinas. Regent is a hybrid variety that overwinters well in our climate and is well-suited to the Nordic climate. As a result, it typically produces a full-bodied, tannic red wine. For the rosé, the light and vibrant color comes from skin contact that lasted only about 5 hours.

All in all, this is a light and well-balanced rosé that needs no excuses—neither before nor after—for its Nordic growing environment; you simply pour a glass and enjoy. Just like a decent Provence rosé, for example.

The goal of the Wine of the Year competition is to recognize the best wines each year with gold, silver, and bronze awards. This recognition provides wine enthusiasts and sommeliers with a quick, convenient, and comprehensive way to find the best wines on the Estonian wine market and discover new importers and winemakers. The Wine of the Year competition is open to all importers and producers of grape wines available in Estonia. The competition is organized by the Estonian Sommelier Association (MTÜ).

A total of 559 wines from 51 different companies were submitted to the 2026 Wine of the Year competition. The wines were evaluated by a professional jury consisting of Estonian sommeliers, beverage specialists, and journalists. All wines were rigorously evaluated through a blind tasting, during which the judges knew only the wine’s country of origin, grape variety or varieties, and price.

All wines were served at the correct temperature straight from the bottle (without decanting). Each category was evaluated by a jury of at least five members, led by an experienced group leader who tallied the points, ensured consistency in scoring, and, when necessary, facilitated discussion among the judges to clarify or harmonize the results. This year, nearly 350 awards were presented.
